Cutting metal

Solid material, sheets, tubes and profiles made of structural steel, tool steel, but also stainless steel and non-ferrous metals can be machined with cut-off wheels.

Cutting Metal with Cutting Discs

There are different ways to cut metal. Using a cutting discs is one method. Unlike a grinding disc, which works on a surface and lifts off chips, a cuting disc cuts off material along a line.

Cutting discs can not only cut (off) metal, but also stone, brick, concrete, etc. Resin-bonded cut-off wheels are used for cutting metals, and diamond wheels are used for cutting stone.

To enable cut-off wheels to cut, abrasive grit (e.g. aluminium oxide, silicon carbide or corundum) is mixed with synthetic resin, pressed onto fabric discs and hardened in ovens. The discs are available in different diameters and for cutting different metals.

You should not use cutting discs for grinding. The only exception is our Cut & Grind discs. Here, light grinding work can be carried out in addition to cutting.

Our cutting discs are manufactured on modern production facilities according to the latest safety standards in accordance with EN 12 413 and oSa.

Which information can I find on an Osborn cutting disc?

On our discs you will find all important information ensuring you choose the right disc for the right application. Before you start cutting metal, you should therefore look at the information carefully, observe all safety precautions (protective equipment) and make sure that you use the right angle grinder for the disc.
