Grind out welds

If defects or inclusions of impurities occur in the weld, it may be necessary to grind out parts of the seam.

Why do I need to grind out welds?

If defects or inclusions of impurities occur in the weld, it may be necessary to grind out parts of the seam.
This is particularly the case with root and filler welds. Otherwise there is a risk that the subsequent weld layers will not form a solid bond and the seam will break.

Which tools should I choose to grind out the weld?

Grinding is done with cutting tools.

Grinding wheels are particularly suitable for grinding. With their front face they plunge  deep into the correction point and remove faulty welds or inclusions.

Depending on whether the correction point is very narrow or rather wider, roughing wheels from 2.5 mm to 6 mm wide can be used.

Our Cut & Grind discs deserve special mention. With these combination discs, you can cut at a comfortable speed and then grind without changing tools. This saves time and money.

A 2.5 mm disc for narrow correction points is for example the Superior AS46T Inox. For medium width corrections, the 3.0 mm Evolution AK46V CeraMaxx disc is suitable. For wide correction points, 4-6 mm discs can be used: Superior AS 30 R or Evolution AK 24 V CeraMaxx and also the flap disc Evolution Zircon Flex.
